Head For The Flower Beds!

Thursday, April 02, 2009

Yesterday afternoon, I just couldn't resist grabbing the rake and going at some of our flowers beds. I say ours or I run the risk of being chastised by my wife, if you know what I mean. Anyway, she was very pleased when she got home late in the day to find I had cleared out the bed at the back of the house. And those shoots are popping out of the ground quickly, so it's best you get at your soon before they work their way through the leaves. I think I'll do a section of the lawn today that really got covered with debris after that huge snow storm last November that brought down tons of stuff from the trees. Ah yes, a man's work is never done!

I can't believe I didn't get victimized during April Fools yesterday. Some people do come up with some ingenious pranks! Take a look at these...

A host of pranks are only a click away for people looking for April Fool's day jokes. Websites are awash in phoney ads and other hoaxes to mark April1st.

Google has unveiled a "Gmail Autopilot" that promises it will help you weed through your inbox by replying to e-mails with automated responses.

The Whole Foods homepage has a slew of new products -- including organic air in a spray bottle for $6.99. The grocery store chain is also featuring a special promotion where customers receive one free spider with every 50 pound purchase of organic bananas.

ThinkGeek.com has a fake advertisement for Squeeze Bacon that has a shelf life of 12 years and doesn't require refrigeration.

Media companies got into the spirit, too.

The 188-year-old British newspaper The Guardian says on its website that it plans to become a "Twitter-only publication,"limiting its reports to 140 characters or less. One example based on a story from 1927 reads: "OMG first successful transatlantic air flight wow, pretty cool!"

Other hoaxes include upside-down viewing from YouTube, a Web site of smells called smellr (smell-ER) and an "ideological search engine" from Yahoo that filters results to fit your personal beliefs.
