How Wine's Made!

Monday, November 30, 2009

This weekend I was down in the Niagara region...I found it odd that I'd never really spent any time down there, as the area's known for touristy things, and some low-key bed and breakfasts, etc.

So why not take a wine tour while down there!

Very very interesting stuff...if you're ever in the Niagara region, that's not to be missed.  The tour we went on was great...the wine-makers at this time of the year don't have that much to do, as the season's over, there's nothing on the vines, and the only thing that's really still to come is the Icewine making.  Icewine requires 4-5 days of sub -8 temperature in the weather, and if you're from the Niagara region with the warm air off the lake, you know that's pretty rare!

Seeing hundreds of French Oak barrels though, (that are apparently 1500 dollars each!..geez!) was really neat.

And of course, the entire building in the processing facility smelled like wine...delicious.

Get out and enjoy a little internationally recognized wonder not far from here!  Leave a comment if you've ever been down there highlighting your experience!

Have a great Monday,
