Building activity in Wasaga Beach continued at a steady pace in 2017 and for the first time ever the value of construction surpassed the $100-million mark.
A total of 674 permits were issued last year, compared to 704 permits in 2016. While
that figure is a slight decrease, the permit fees collected were above the year before.
Permit fees for 2017 were $872,924 compared to $775,016 for 2016. The value of all
construction in 2017 was $108-million, up from $97-million the year before.
“These numbers indicate continued healthy construction activity in our town,” Mayor
Brian Smith said. “Both 2017 figures and 2016 figures are above what we saw in 2015,
when the number of permits issued was 533 and the total fees collected were $420,541.
The value of construction then was $53-milion. We anticipate another busy building year
