This song co-written and produced Jeff Lynne returned a pioneer of Rock’n’Roll the Top 10 for the first time in 25 years.
In 1956 Orbison’s career was kicked off when he was signed by Sam Phillips to Sun Records.
From 1960 to 1966, twenty-two of his singles reached the Billboard Top 40, he also wrote songs like “Only the Lonely” (1960), “Running Scared” (1961), “Crying” (1961) and “Oh, Pretty Woman” (1964) each of which hit the top 10. Soon afterward, Orbison was struck by a number of personal tragedies while his record sales declined.
Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty wrote “You Got It” but it was definitely in Roy Orbison’s signature style and thanks to Lynnes masterfull production not out of date for the 1980s. It went to the top 10 in April of 1989.
