What can happen when a member of the most iconic bands of the 1960s; and one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriter of the ’70s join forces? Well, naturally, one of the biggest hits of the ’80s!
Paul McCartney had this song pretty much recorded and ready to go when producer George Martin suggested that the songs message about race relations would make a great vocal duet. McCartney immediately sought out Stevie Wonder who was happy to come out to the island of Montserrat where McCartney was recording at the time.
Once there he suggested some improvements to songs bed track and re-recorded the songs drum part, which promoted McCartney to go back and redo his bass line to the new groove.
The song spent 8 weeks at number one in 1982!
