The OPP are reminding residents not to give away any personal information over the phone after some local residents fell victim to scams.
Incidents of fraud have been reported by residents of Tiny Township, Tay Township, and Penetanguishene. These scams come in many forms, but police say most of them involve someone calling and claiming to be someone they’re not.
Some of the reported calls include a financial institution claiming your credit card has been compromised and they require your personal and banking information to correct the problem, and the Canada Revenue Agency claiming you owe unpaid taxes or have overpaid and are owed a refund.
