It still seems to be a mystery as to why it started but it was a silent tradition that began around ten years ago.
As a result a large tree on Crossland Road in Springwater Township became known as the Shoe Tree. Until recently the might maple stood adorned withe hundreds of pairs of shoes that have been collecting in branches for close to a decade.
For a Collingwood Family with withy Family in Peterborough it was a welcome roadside attraction on our many trips back and forth.
According to county officials the tree was in bad shape the the weight of the shoes made it a safety hazard and forced to be taken down.
