The Conservative Party leadership bid of Kellie Leitch came to an end on Saturday, after the Simcoe-Grey MP was eliminated in the ninth round of voting. Andrew Scheer won the leadership of the opposition party.
However in a recent interview with Simcoe.com, Leitch said she’s proud of her campaign despite not winning leadership. She said, “we put forward a number of ideas that were top of mind for Canadians […] Issues that people really wanted to have discussed but felt they could not discuss.”
During her campaign, Leitch created controversy when she announced the plan to screen immigrants for “anti-Canadian values”, and faced complaints after calling the victory by Donald Trump in the US presidential election an “exciting message.”
