Last Friday, a senior from Meaford lost $890 after falling victim to a phone scam.
She received a phone call from someone saying they were calling on behalf of Scotia Bank Investigation Services. They said they were investigating a man overseas who had gained access to her account, and requested that she transfer money to an undisclosed account so they could catch the man. Soon after the money transfer was complete, the woman realized she had been scammed.
Police are reminding local residents to be cautious when they receive phone calls like this.
