Ryan Seacrest is only a few weeks into his new gig as co-host on “Live!” but he’s already made one major on-air flub. Though Jeffrey Tambor has had a long career in film and television with memorable roles in “Arrested Development” and “Transparent”, Seacrest believed he had appeared in the Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore drama “Ghost”. Despite his many on-screen characters, one role the actor most certainly didn’t play was the menacing subway ghost in the 1990 film; That memorable part was played by character actor Vincent Schiavelli, who died in 2005. You’d figure the last thing the Motion Picture Academy wants to see at next year’s Oscar’s would be non-stop reminders of this year’s snafu that led to the wrong movie being announced as best picture. But it sounds like it will be the first thing on the minds of the team that will produce the show. Jennifer Todd and Michael De Luca have been asked to return, as was first-time host Jimmy Kimmel. And they say they expect Kimmel to have “a field day” with jokes about the mix-up.
A CBS TV executive says the spinoff of “The Big Bang Theory” based on the younger version of Jim Parsons’ character is more of a gentle comedy similar to “The Wonder Years.” The spinoff, “Young Sheldon,” will run side-by-side with the regular version of “Big Bang” on the network’s Thursday night schedule. Young Sheldon will be one of eight new series that will be coming to the network this upcoming TV season. You can read more here.
