The councillors in Wasaga Beach have voted against a bid to record the meetings of council’s committees.
Council’s committee of the whole and coordinated committee meetings are livestreamed on YouTube, but Councilor Sylvia Bray noted that committees of council such as the library board and tourism advisory committee are not broadcast.
Bray had put forward a motion at council’s April 13th general government committee meeting to record committee meetings, but it was not approved. At council’s April 25th meeting, she tried again but was unsuccessful for a second time.
Bray told Simcoe.com: “I believe a ‘no’ vote is a very public statement by this council against transparency.” However, Simcoe.com also quoted Mayor Brian Smith as saying the current council is “more transparent than past councils have ever been in this community.”
