UPDATE 8:50am: The Mayor has retracted this statement. In an interview on Talk of the Town this morning, Mayor Sandra Cooper said: “[The] letter was submitted to me late Friday afternoon and I was asked to sign […] I just want to personally, on my own, apologize and retract my support to the letter that was sent under my name”. Cooper went on to say that, “From the moment I had read the letter I did feel uncomfortable with the approach and with the message […] I think it’s equally important when a person makes a mistake they take action to correct that mistake immediately. So that is what I’m doing through the retraction, I’m correcting my mistake”.

Collingwood’s Mayor Sandra Cooper has spoken up about the Hospital’s claim that the Town is to blame for the Hospital redevelopment not moving forward. Cooper wrote a letter to Thom Paterson, Chair of the Collingwood G&M Hospital, saying the Town is trying to work collaboratively with the Hospital, and that “the statements made on the CGMH website [are] truly troubling and disappointing”. The statements that Cooper is referring to can be found on this webpage.
In Cooper’s letter to Paterson, she said that the statements made are “not just erroneous but also potentially slanderous against the Town”. The letter asks for the statements made on the webpage to be removed so that they can work together to “ensure the new hospital remains in Collingwood”.
