The Oscars on Sunday night garnered a lot of buzz, mainly over the Best Picture blunder. It turns out that wasn’t the only mistake during the broadcast, with reports saying there was a major error during the “In Memoriam” tribute. Jan Chapman (an Australian producer) was shocked when she saw her photo in the tribute, used to commemorate the death of her former collaborator, Janet Patterson (a BAFTA-winning and four-time Oscar-nominated costume designer). Chapman is assuring the public that she is “alive and well”.
And the controversy surrounding Casey Affleck’s award season run continues. Even after he took home the Academy Award for Best Actor, the conversation quickly returned to sexual harassment allegations previously made against him. Critics have focused on presenter Brie Larson’s noticeable reaction to his win – or lack thereof. Viewers seemed to feel that Larson, last year’s winner for Best Actress, came across as apathetic as she presented the award to Affleck.
Brie Larson wasn’t the only one who seemed unimpressed with the Oscars, as US President Trump has finally weighed in on the show. Host Jimmy Kimmel made many political jokes targeted at the President, and Trump said “it was a little sad”. He said the show’s political overtones “took away from the glamour of the Oscars.” Find the details here.
