The Town of Collingwood Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is pleased to announce the opening of the submission phase for the 2017 Live & Original Music Series.
This will be the first year that Live & Original has been separated from the Collingwood Elvis Festival as a stand-alone event.
Video audition submissions will be received starting today with the deadline for receiving 2016 Winner Mike Charette performs at the submissions: March 17, 2017. Live & Original Encore performance at the Shipyards Amphitheatre in Collingwood.
Singer-songwriter artists and bands should visit liveandoriginal.ca for information including contest rules, how to submit an audition video, what must be submitted, and the judging criteria. Eight applicants will be selected, by a judging panel, to perform in Collingwood on the Live & Original Weekend.
A group of 10 additional applicants will be selected by the judging panel to compete for two
“wildcard” spots in the final roster of talent. The 10 wildcard contenders will have their video posted online for public voting between March 18 and 27. The two performers with the most votes will secure the wildcard positions in the final talent roster, and compete in May.
The 10 contenders will perform two original songs Live in front of an audience and judging panel on Saturday, May 6. A combination of votes from the audience, plus opinions from the judging panel will yield a field of 6 artists for the Finals. The 6 Finalists will again perform two original songs on Sunday, May 7. The judging panel will make the decision on who the Top 3 are, including the 2017 Champion.
The Collingwood Downtown Business Improvement Area has agreed to be the prize sponsor for the 2017 Live & Original Music Series. The total cash prize value is $5000 (First prize $3000, Second prize $1500, Third prize $500).
For the duration of the music series, contestants are provided a single room accommodation courtesy of Living Water Resort & Spa. Contestants are accommodated between May 6 to May 8, as long as they remain in the competition. Additionally, Living Water Resort & Spa and Cranberry Golf Resort will offer a weekend retreat package to the 2017 Champion again this year, including accommodations, meals, golf, and spa treatments.
Friday, May 5 will see the some of the 10 competitors, as well as past Live & Original Alumni, hit local stages and venues for local performances prior to the main event kicking off the following day. Times and locations will be announced at a later date.
Building on the Live & Original Music Series’ intention to be a development ground for emerging artists, two workshops will be offered this year in conjunction with the singer/songwriter contest; Saturday: Hitting the Studio and Sunday: Songcraft.
