Here’s an ethics question: what would you do if you were the employee who made this discovery?
$100,000 in cash was found stashed in the back of an old TV set at a recycling company on John Street in Barrie on Monday. Police say the set was at the site for about a year before employees started to dismantle it, and found the cash box with records bearing the owner’s name dating back to 1985.
Police found the rightful owner, a 68-year-old man from Barrie, who told officers he forgot that he put the money in the TV for safe keeping. The money was an inheritance that was given to the man by his parents. The TV was passed on to a family friend who later dropped it off at the recycling centre, not knowing what was inside.
