Residents of Collingwood and the Blue Mountains are being warned of a recent scam, where people receive phone calls apparently from their utility company. One customer said she had been contacted several times by phone, by someone saying that she still had to pay her water bill and to call a 1-800 number to sort it out. The caller threatened to put a lien on her house if she didn’t pay. Thankfully, the woman called her utility company to confirm and therefore didn’t give any personal information to the fraudster.
Last night, Collus PowerStream Tweeted that they’d heard of customers receiving similar calls. They want anyone who experiences this to hang up and call them immediately to verify.
