Meaford, Ontario – January 5, 2017 – Due to the high snow accumulation in the Municipality of Meaford and surrounding area in the last 24 hours, combined with blowing snow and reduced visibility, residents can expect delays in what they would consider normal snow clearing operations.
Weather reports have indicated approximately 15-20cm of snow has fallen. Transportation Services staff reported snow accumulation up to 1 meter or more in many locations due to the texture of the snow and winds causing significant drifting.
Winter Control operations began at 4:00am this morning, and are continuing throughout the day, however heavy drifting and poor visibility have caused delays in road clearing. Opening road infrastructure is the first priority, and urban snow bank removal will be evaluated and scheduled as necessary.
As Transportation Services staff work hard to clear roads and sidewalks, we ask residents to be patient and use extra caution when driving. We would also like to remind residents not to park cars on roadways so they will be clear for plowing.
If required, and for public safety, staff will determine if any municipal roads will be closed. A further update on road clearing efforts will be provided on January 6, 2017.
