The owners of a future large-scale medical marijuana plant in Collingwood are hoping for a 2017 opening date. The CEO of Georgian Bay Bio Med has received approvals for a facility on Mountain Road, and the goal is to start construction in the last few months of 2017.
Collingwood council voted to defer 50% of the development charges on the proposal for a maximum of 5 years. Director of Planning, Nancy Farrer, told Simcoe.com that “The only reason from staff’s perspective we are considering this, it is job creation and it is economic development.”
Company CEO Tim Boosamra says the deferral of charges will help them start production faster: “We’d like to get started as soon as possible,” he said.
