Yesterday, 19-year-old Sam Oosterhoff was sworn in as Ontario’s youngest-ever MPP after he was elected in a byelection in Niagara West-Glanbrook. Oosterhoff holds some social conservative views, which some say is a threat to party leader Patrick Brown’s efforts to modernize the party.
Oosterhoff struggled with one of his first press appearances yesterday, avoiding many questions that members of the press asked him.
When asked about Tuesday’s vote on parental rights for same-sex couples, which Oosterhoff missed because he delayed his swearing in ceremony, he seemed to dodge questions about his stance on the issue.
He also says he’s not a homophobe, but wouldn’t answer directly when asked if he thinks homosexuality is a sin.
