Here’s some great news for students in this area.
The Ministry of Education announced today that the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) will receive $6.26 million in capital funding for major additions and renovations at Cameron Street Public School and Mountain View Elementary School in Collingwood. On Oct. 20 the Ministry also announced funding for a three-room child care addition at Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford. These projects were capital priority business cases submitted by the SCDSB to the Ministry of Education in July 2016.
“Many of our communities are growing, and we are pleased that the Government of Ontario has provided funding for us to continue to grow with them,” says Peter Beacock, SCDSB Chairperson. “The SCDSB has been fortunate to receive funding for a number of new schools and major additions in recent years. This is due in large part to the difficult decisions made by our Board of Trustees and the hard work of our staff as they put together solid business cases to support our system’s needs.”
The additions at the Collingwood schools will help address enrolment pressures currently experienced in the area as a result of population growth. The child care addition in Bradford will provide 49 new licensed child care spaces.
Notes Kathi Wallace, Director of Education, “These additions will allow us to continue to improve the programs that we offer our students. By creating new learning spaces and incorporating child care centres into our schools, we are supporting children and youth in our communities as they learn and grow.”
