Ok, I’ll admit it. When the “big kids” come to my house on Halloween night I do think to myself “You are too big for this.” But I always give them candy. My problem is more when they show up late (I consider 9pm too late for trick or treating)…as my kids are still relatively little and it’s lights out by 8pm for us especially when Halloween falls on a school night.
But when I read this it made me understand a little more:
“When a crowd of under-costumed teens shows up on your doorstep, welcome them. It’s a big group because they find strength in numbers. They’re not wearing costumes because they didn’t realize that they’d want to go — nor how badly.
Give them big bars. Don’t tell them they’re too old. They already know that.
Let them pretend it just isn’t so.”
You know what, she’s absolutely right. They may be 15 but that’s still a kid. They’re still looking to have fun and if trick or treating is all they’re doing then that’s not such a bad thing!
