Earlier today we got this message from Collus Powerstream, wanting to thank everyone for their help and patience during and after Monday’s storm!
“The severe thunderstorm that swept across southern Georgian Bay and Central Ontario on Monday, October 17 caused power outages for thousands of electricity customers including more than 13,000 served by Collus PowerStream.
On Monday afternoon, the Town of Collingwood was one of the areas hit hardest by the storm, which resulted in a loss of electricity supply from the Hydro One provincial transmission system and caused many localized outages on the Collus PowerStream distribution system due to high-gusting winds that brought down trees on wires or downed power lines.
Storm damage can present additional hazards during power restoration and the safety of staff, emergency responders and customers was a priority for the utility, which was appreciative of the patience demonstrated by those customers affected by the storm in Collingwood, Stayner, Thornbury and Creemore.
The majority of customers had their power restored by 9:30 p.m. on Monday. Storm repairs continued throughout the evening and overnight so that only a handful of customers remained without power by late Tuesday night, which are individual locations with service issues such as broken meter stacks that require repairs by a residential electrician.
One of the tangible benefits of the Town of Collingwood’s partnership with PowerStream was seen with the timely arrival of PowerStream line crews to assist with outage restoration and relieve Collus PowerStream line crews and support staff overnight for a prescribed rest period, so they were available Tuesday morning to complete restoration work safely in the daylight.”
