We finally have a name for the storm that hit our area on Monday, as Environment Canada has confirmed that a tornado touched down near Stayner and the same storm system caused major damage in Collingwood and The Blue Mountains. The strength of the tornado is still being determined, and the damage in towns close to Stayner, including Collingwood, is still being investigated.
Meteorologist Mitch Meredith was investigating the damage in the area on Tuesday to determine if the tornado also touched down in Collingwood. He told Simcoe.com, “It was the same system, I am just going to need to do a bit more work in Collingwood to understand what the wind speed is […] It may have been a little bit stronger wind here, I just don’t know if this is tornado damage.”
