Thanksgiving is one of my favourite holidays (possibly because my motto is “never turn down free food” and of course that includes the turkey feasts my grandparents cook each year). One of my favourite things to do during this holiday – other than eat and be thankful for stuff, of course – is to watch Thanksgiving specials on TV. Most of my favourite TV shows have come out with hilarious Thanksgiving episodes over the years, and I wanted to share some of them to help get your marathon started!
1. Friends: “The One With All The Thanksgivings” (Season 5)
Of course Friends had many Thanksgiving episodes throughout its 10 seasons, but this one is my favourite if I had to choose. If you have time, try to go through and watch them all (hint: there’s one episode in each season)!
2. How I Met Your Mother: “Slapsgiving” (Season 3)
HIMYM is another sitcom with a few Thanksgiving episodes, but this one started the “Slapsgiving” tradition. Basically, both Slapsgiving episodes in the series involve Barney hilariously anticipating the slap that Marshall will be giving him after losing a slap-bet.
3. Seinfeld: “The Mom and Pop Store” (Season 6)
If you see a trend here, it’s because sitcoms are the best source for Thanksgiving-themed episodes. And this episode is no different from all the other hilarious episodes of Seinfeld!
4. Gilmore Girls: “A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving” (Season 3)
Since Gilmore Girls only did one Thanksgiving episode throughout its entire run, it had to be good. And what could be better than Lorelai and Rory struggling to make their way through 4 Thanksgiving dinners?
5. Full House: “The Miracle of Thanksgiving” (Season 1)
One of my favourite childhood shows, Full House, knows how to do a Thanksgiving special. The episode from their first season is a favourite of mine, because season 1 started it all! Plus, it’s hilarious to watch the three men trying to make Thanksgiving dinner without the help of the girls’ grandmother.
Do you have a favourite Thanksgiving special that isn’t on this list? There are so many to choose from! I’d love to hear yours – I’m always looking to make my marathon a bit longer!
