Great news for commuters across Simcoe County! A recent announcement means that it will soon be possible to travel by bus across most of our area. Council agreed to start a new regional transit system, with the plan being to build the system in phases over the next 4 years.
Here’s a summary of the plan:
- 1st Year: Begin the Midland to Barrie route
- 2nd Year: Add the Barrie to Orillia route, and assume responsibility for three existing inter-municipal routes: Barrie to Angus, Midland to Penetanguishene and Collingwood to Wasaga Beach
- 3rd Year: Add Collingwood to Barrie
- 4th Year: Add Alliston to Bradford and Midland to Orillia
The county plans to hire a contractor to operate the system. They estimate the ride will cost about $7 per trip, and as of now the plan is for the buses to run 12 hours a day from Monday to Friday.
