Almost 30 years ago exactly the Collingwood Shipyards closed. It was September 12, 1986.
The Collingwood Museum has quite a few artifacts from the Shipyards but want to make even more special to the community, so they asked for help – they called upon residents to loan anything from the history of the ships to donate items for their new exhibit.
And the community delivered – lending things like the original cork used when the ship was first christened.
The grand opening of the exhibit runs this Saturday from 12-4, and while you’re there you can see things like letters, plates and photographs.
