It’s a terrible feeling: approaching the counter and handing the clerk your credit card, only to have the machine produce that awful beeping noise that means your purchase wasn’t approved. You question what happened, but most of all you’re embarrassed. Well, this list of celebrity money mishaps will make you feel better about that – because they make millions of dollars per year.
Yesterday, Justin Bieber’s credit card was declined. No, he wasn’t spending thousands at a designer store. He was attempting to purchase sandwiches for himself and new girlfriend, Sofia Richie, from Subway. You read that right – Subway, the sandwich shop that used to boast their $5 footlong deal and is still very inexpensive as far as lunch goes. The Daily Mail said that a customer stepped in and paid for the singer’s meal.
Earlier this month Adele admitted her embarrassing story, that her credit card was declined during a shopping spree. Adele told Forbes magazine: “I went to H&M and my card got declined… Nobody knew it was me. But I was mortified.”
A few years ago, Miley Cyrus had her card declined when she tried to buy $170 worth of records. At the time the singer was reported to have a wealth of around $150 million, but apparently that wasn’t enough to stop her from this embarrassment.
Even the President of the United States isn’t safe from this issue apparently, as Barack Obama’s credit card didn’t work when he was at a fancy restaurant with Michelle. Obama told CNN: “I guess I don’t use it enough, so they thought there was some fraud going on… Luckily, Michelle had hers. I was trying to explain to the waitress that I’ve really been paying my bills.”
