It’s funny. I can finally say that I’m at a point in parenting where I can say I’ve been there and done that when it comes to some things, including sending them off to Junior Kindergarten.
Logically, I know what my daughter will need on her first day of JK. (She’s my 3rd.) Emotionally…that’s a different story! I know she’s ready but she’s my last to go. 🙁 It’s the end of an era…the end of preschoolers and toddlers and playgroups and that whole phase of my life. Oh great now my eyes are welling up.
Ok, back to what your child will need on that first day of JK. First of all, you should know that in Simcoe County, JK’s start two days after everyone else. So that day is Thursday, September 8.
What do you need to put in that giant back pack? I know it looks way too big for your little one. But trust me, once you get an agenda, library books, projects and lunch in there it’s actually perfect.
The Simcoe County District School Board has put this list on their site:
They may get a list from the teachers…but that’s all stuff you can pick up once you know for sure. In our school that list included paper towels, hand soap for the class room, tissues, play dough, a glue stick, duotangs and scissors. (Again that’s just our school yours could be different!)
Good luck to all the mamas and little ones doing this for the first time this year! I remember the urge to peer in the window and see what the kids were doing all day…but trust me they’re in great hands and they’ll love it! And if your kids’ teachers are anything like mine they will welcome your questions so if you’re unsure of anything, ask! It’s worth the peace of mind. I do remember the boys being SUPER tired at the beginning of the year…we had days where they didn’t even make it to dinner without falling asleep! But they will adjust to that too. And so will you. <3
