Mike Chapman and Holly Night wrote the song as a ballad but when Benatar and her husband and producer Neil Giraldo recorded it they picked up the temp, added drum loops and edge to the song.
Mike Chapman was already a legendary producer at the time and Benatar remembers Chapman’s reaction to their recording of his song “…when he heard it, he just went crazy. He goes, ‘I don’t want you to have the song anymore. I hate it. I hate what you’ve done. It’s horrible. I can’t listen to it. It’s horrible.’ And then it went to #5, and he goes, ‘I think it’s great!”
