Lyricist Bernie Taupin says the song was an attempt at an American style Rock n Roll Song set in England. The lyrics inspired by his youthful days in the rough and rowdy Aston Arms pub in Lincolnshire.
Whereas most Elton John songs were recorded first with Elton at the piano and then the rest of the band filling in behind it, this is one of the few songs where the bass, drums and guitar tracks were recorded first.
