Tragedy in southern Ontario’s horse-racing community with the deaths of more than 40 racehorses in a stable fire west of Toronto.
The fire began after 11 p-m local time at the Classy Lane Stables Training Centre in Puslinch, and was fought by firefighters from several
communities in the Guelph and Hamilton areas.
Barb Miller, who owns the facility with her husband Jamie, is currently in Florida and estimates at least 43 of the animals perished.
She says her husband is scrambling to get a flight back home as soon as possible.
Miller says all of the horses are standardbreds owned by trainers who race them at Ontario’s Mohawk, Woodbine and Flamboro racetracks.
